Long-Arm Quilting Services

GreatBlue Moon back detail care is taken with every quilt to enhance each piece to the wishes of the owner.  I know how much time, effort and money goes into making each quilt top.  Customer satisfaction is my ultimate goal as I view every client as key to my success, and repeat business is very important to me.  I recommend you make an appointment in order to reserve the time needed to talk about your quilt!

Every quilt is evaluated on an individual basis.  The end use of the quilt should be the deciding factor on how the quilt is finished.

Pantographs, sometimes called all-over patterns, give a beautiful texture to most quilts and leave them soft and stable. I have pantographs from leading designers to suit every mood, Asian motifs being my special favorites.  Pantographs are also the least expensive option for finishing your quilt.

Custom quilting is a combination of several different methods of quilting, including stitching “in the ditch”, or outlining sections or blocks or applique, individual border designs, echo quilting, trapunto, free-hand stitching and background stitching.

Heirloom quilting is my speciality.  Heirloom quilting consists of many tiny stitches, very close together.  It is very decorative, giving a texture and definition to the quilt.

Pantographs are priced at $0.03 per square inch.  Custom quilting begins at $0.05 per square inch, and heirloom stitching begins at $0.07 per square inch.  Aurifil 100% cotton thread and some speciality threads are included at no additional cost.

To determine the cost of quilting, multiply the length of your top by the width of your top by the cost of the quilting.  For example, if my quilt top is 55 by 75 inches, to see how much a pantograph would cost, I multiply 55 x 75 x 0.03, which totals $123.75.

Batting and Backing

I recomend Hobbs battings for the long-arm simply because I like the end results better than with any other. These battings are clean of mill debris, of a consistent density and are manufactured to achieve superior results on the long-arm. If you haven’t yet tried the Tuscany wool, and like a bit of loft with a beautiful hand, I suggest you ask me to show samples before you purchase another batting. I stock both the Hobbs 80/20 cotton/poly batting and the Tuscany wool batting on the roll (available for purchase by the yard).

I really like the look of the wide backings as there are no vertical or horizontal seams. There are several sources I know of for these wide backings. eQuilter has a selection of wide backings but my favorite site specializes in the wide backings. Christian Lane Quilters has the best selection that I know of and wonderful service. I am also very happy to have hand-dyed 108” wide sateen from Anita Heady Fiber Arts in the studio. Colors change and custom dying is possible.
